The Necessity of Change
by Jackie Woods
Our life force moves forward until it gets boxed in with habits. When these habits become our structural base, they block our real identity. Even though these activities might provide comfort and stability they should never become our identity. When our identity gets covered by habitual structures, we start identifying with the result rather than our expression.
So what should we do when our structures cease to be expression foundations? Making change for the sake of change won’t solve the dilemma. There has to be an infusion of whichever quality your Spirit says needs to have an expression. That may mean reworking a structure, or it may mean finding new ones. Either way, the focus must be listening to what your heart offers rather than your fear of change.
Even without an intent to change, some structures will collapse. But many will be allowed to stoically carry on even when they no longer serve as a base for spirit expression. That is when people start searching for easy fixes. Those fixes may come in the form of doing things to distract themselves from the empty structures. Or serve as a reason to dig deeper into their stoic self so they can trudge ahead.
If you are willing to change, here are two possibilities. You can add new life to structures of habit or let your Spirit create new structures. Either way, you will face each day with anticipation rather than dread. As more of your qualities find expression, life will feed you instead of draining you.
When life nudges you to change, pay attention. Check with your Spirit to see which of your qualities wants more expression. Then start facing down whatever fear of change is trying to block your forward movement. Outgrown structures kill enthusiasm and motivation. But fear of change is even more deadly since it kills the exchange between your higher and lower selves.
Remember, you cannot put new wine into old wineskins. But don’t worry. Your Spirit will provide the new wineskins. All you need to do to best your fears is follow the lead of your Spirit. When you begin to experience structures as containers for the special qualities of your Spirit, your life will be vital and purposeful.
Thank you for the teachings.
Kathryn, I appreciate that we are on the same team.
